Summary of the Patient Rights Law

  • The right to receive proper medical care:
    You have the right to receive professional medical care accompanied by humane treatment without any discrimination.
  • Identity of the practitioner:
    You have the right to know the name and position of any staff member treating you.
  • Consent to medical care:
    You have the right to receive a clear explanation of your medical condition, the appropriate treatment possibilities for you, and their alternatives, including chances and risks. It is important for you to give the practitioner information about your medical history in order to personalize the treatment for you.
    You have the right to refuse medical treatment you have not agreed to, other than in exceptional cases set out by law.
    You have the right to appoint a representative who will be authorized to provide consent to medical care for you if you are unable to make a decision.
  • Retaining dignity and privacy:
    You are entitled to retain your dignity and privacy at all stages of medical care.
    In specific medical tests, you have the right to the presence of another person in the room, at your request.
  • Maintaining medical confidentiality:
    Persons treating you are obligated to ensure that medical information about you and your medical treatment are kept confidential.
  • Disclosure of medical information to others:
    You have the right to have medical information about you disclosed only with your consent, or when it is permitted under the provisions of the law or is mandatory.
  • Second opinion:
    You have the right to request a second medical opinion regarding your medical care. The medical staff at the facility are obliged to assist with this.
  • Continuity of care:
    During transfer between practitioners or between medical facilities, you have the right to ask the practitioners and medical facilities to cooperate with one another to ensure proper continuity of medical care for you.
  • Receiving visitors:
    During hospitalization, you have the right to receive visitors during visiting hours.
  • Receiving medical information:
    You have the right to receive information from your medical record or a copy thereof.
    Receiving a copy of your medical record may be subject to a fee. Upon discharge from treatment, you have the right to receive a discharge summary of the course of treatment.
